Charge lamp on, How can I solve it?

Dear everyone,
I'd serch the forum but could not find the thread, sorry for make new thread.

I solved the RST error trouble, but today I met another trouble.

During driving in road, charge lamp sometimes lit.

I'd checked the battery voltage, it was 12v.
My battery is 8years old and have experience of dead, so I bought new battery and changed today.

But after battery changed, charge indicator become always lit.

I checked the voltage of new battery, it was 12.7v.
And I also checked the battery voltage during engine is running, it was same 12.7v.

I think it maybe alternator not charging the battery.

Problem is alternator dead? or do you have any knowlage?

Thank you very much for reading.

you should see upper 13's to low 14's with a/c and lights on at operating temperature, 12.7 battery voltage while running is way low.

probably a bad voltage regulator, which unless you can find someone to replace it, or do it yourself, you'll be replacing the alternator.

If the running voltage doesn't drop below the battery, the regulator is likely defective. Generally speaking, of course. If the voltage running drops below the battery, it is sometimes a very strong indication of a dead alternator.

I've also had insufficient charging when some sort of tarry substance, likely the insulating material on my valeo regulator, flowed under heat and fouled the brushes and slip rings. I used electronics cleaner on it, and the brushes popped out of the housing, revealing some good life left, and the slip rings were cleaned. Everything has been back to normal since.

I would still like to swap out my regulator, but the dealer is charging a fortune for the valeo type, and I contacted valeo and they seem to have a horrible breakdown in getting them out to the independents that claim would carry them.

Hi, every one.

About my alternator dead problem, New Voltage regulator just arrived to my home.

Does any one know how to remove the alternator?

Is it difficult or easy?

Once I removed the alternator from 1994 mustang, it was not difficult.
How about the R129 SL320?

If you know same kind of thread, please inform to me.

Thank you very much.

Best regards.

replacing the voltage regulator is usually the problem but it could be the alternator or a wire came loose/broke on the alternator, or the items you mentioned.

are you doing the work yourself or paying someone?

Dear aam.

I've done the voltage regulator change.

It was so easy cause I could access to back of alternator only by remove the airfilter box.

But alternator not produce the electric...

I think it is rectifier or another alternator parts...

It is difficult...

Does anyone know rectifier selling shop?
I could not find it in autohauz AZ and rockauto.

I think you will need to buy a rebuilt Alternator but you need to check your current alternator with the above tool.

BTW, I think I am going to Merge the two threads into one instead of having two Threads.

Dear Masaki.
When you installed the regulator did you clean the rotor in the alternator?
Clean it with a piece of fine emery paper. It is like sand paper.
(They are the brass tongs that the regulator carbon brushes rid on.)

Installing the new regulator sometimes is not going to cut it,
trouble shooting the problem is.

After you do that, you must take voltage readings to see what is going on.

It is also possible that you have wire problems.
You must trouble shoot the whole charging system.
Also CK your ground straps.
Especially the one by the starter.
Also run a temporary heavy ground wire from the body to the engine.

They most likely cure the problem but not the disease.

Regards.
aam.
