DRL Install Causing Errors

I got my 2011 G55 back from the bodyshop today after its daytime running lights installation using the largely OEM parts supplied by Mercteil. The DRLs light up fine, but since picking it up, I've been getting intermittent "Left Parking Light" errors when the headlights themselves go on (either automatically or manually). Have anyone experienced anything like this? Suspect this may be because the power for the DRLs is drawing off the circuit. Any thoughts on how to circumvent this? I'm uncertain as to where the bodyshop connected the power line, which may be part of the issue.

I saw Floobydust's DRL post (http://www.benzworld.org/forums/g-class/2237858-led-drl-install.html) but not sure the kit is the same.

Also, where have others tucked away the modules and wires? The bodyshop put mine right next to the air intakes and the module was very hot when I touched it. I can't imagine that's a good thing for the long-term viability of that part.

Any help is appreciated!

They prob just tied into first key on circuit they found for the LED's, and that drop in power thinks that a bulb is out or something. I'd check to see what circuit they tapped into and take it from there. Most shops are run like a puppy mill, in and out without any real care.

Bulb errors (e.g., Left Parking Light) are generally caused by the bulb circuit drawing too little current rather than too much current. If too much current is drawn from a lamp circuit, the SAM's electronic over current function simply shuts the circuit off. The most common cause of intermittent low current seems to be a loose connection in the parking light socket, although if your 2011 is equipped with LED parking lights, the problem is probably that someone disturbed the connector the the parking lights. I have found that the electrical connections for the front parking lamps and headlights suffer from some corrosion because a lot of water seems to get up into that area of the fenders.

I think it is unlikely that the DRLs in and of themselves are the cause of your issue because they need to wired to a circuit that is always "live" when the engine is running, something the parking lamp circuit is not, so the problem is more likely related to something that was "disturbed" during the install.

I'm not sure what "circuit" the shop tapped into, but you should out from them which one. The electrical distribution on the SAM based MBs is very finicky so the correct place to tap into is extremely important. It is the rare shop that really understands MB electronics.

As for mounting on mine, is fabricated aluminum brackets that bolted to an existing 8mm bolt. These provide a sturdy mount and allow the module to dissipate heat.

This is very helpful! I will remove the parking lamp tonight and check the connections. Certainly is possible that the install disturbed something that's causing a connection issue. It only happens about 25% of the time (always when the headlamps - and thus parking lamps - go on). Hoping it's simple issue!
