you might have a leak somewhere in the system.. most likely what you could check for also is the trunk attract handle the chrome one that flips in and out when you open the trunk. its above the license plate. check and see maybe the license plate its preventing it to go shut all the way up so and thats why your pump is acting up. if not then in one the vacuum lines you might have a leak

agreed... it is a leak somewhere... however, the trunk handle will time out if the motor runs longer than 5-10 seconds.

in fact, all of the attachments will time out if they leak, and the pump motor will turn off after 10 seconds or so as a safety measure (so the pump does not burn itself alive)... the only exception is the AC system vacuum lines...

start by inspecting the vacuum lines under the hood by the blower motor, these are the most common...

the most time efficient way to narrow down the source of leaks is to get 2 vacuum line plugs (stoppers or blocks) and take the lines off of the pump one by one, one at a time, then block the line itself and the empty pump outlet, and see what line makes the problem stop when blocked.

once you have located the line, you can trace it to the component using the color and letter tag at the pump manifold.

from that point on, it will be a piece of cake, replace or repair the defective item...

Bayhas,

I'm not trying to hyjack this thread, but do you know where you can buy good quality vacuum line for the W140? Stuff that will last longet than the origional crap.
the original crap is generally good for 20 years or so, except the ones very close to the engine...

so I would honestly say, OEM is your best bet... used or from the dealer...

are you having problems with a specific line?
