Wow that's a lot of miles if you don't know the service history. I'm thinking it probably has some major engine damage as dropping a cylinder is never good. If it was something minor I'm sure the PO would have taken care of it prior to the sale. With proper maintenance these cars will last but without it you sometimes "loose cylinders", know what I mean? If the cars interior and exterior were in great shape then it still might be a candidate for a replacement engine but you've still got a tranny with lots of miles, I think I would keep looking. The manual transmision is the only good thing about this car, remember, a cheap mercedes will become the most expensive mercedes.
Some little old lady will pull hers out of her garage one of these days and you'll pick up a beauty.

Makes sense to me, the search continues!

Thankfully I live in a neighborhood with plenty of people beyond 80, so maybe I might just get lucky!

I went junkyarding yesterday and saw 3 123's whose mileage added up to 1.3 million miles and only one of them was in the junkyard. I wouldn't be so worried about the mileage as I would be of that little bit about that one pesky piston. The body looks decent but I would want it cheaper due to the engine. I love the seller's note to lowballers - classic!

Cool color combo with 4 speed manual. These cars are slow enough with 4 cylinders, let alone 3 cylinders :p.........move on, you can get one with a good engine for $1000-$1200. That car is a $400 parts car. 300K is not ultra-high...it's common. Super humans did build these cars..

What does running on 3 cylinders actually mean? I had a motor mount that was bad, could have sworn something was wrong with the engine. Hmmm, wonder what is actually wrong with it? Bad injector perhaps? Oh, I wouldn't be too worried about milage, I have 330k on UPS, and it's running fine and still gets 26-27 mpg. Did anybody actually correspond with the seller to find out if he really knows what's wrong?

IF the transmission shifts smoothly and quickly and the body and interior are pristine its pretty much worth it. 4 speed manual 240d is just about perfection.
