I'm still trying to find the perfect Merc for me, and I found an '03 S500 with 4matic, but the EPA estimates say 14 and 19 mpg and that's the same as a Rolls Royce Phantom with a damn 6.75 L V12. I don't have the funds to visit the pumps that much. I really want the car though, it has keyless go, ventilated seats, 113000 miles and its $16000. The same people have a 03 S500 w/o 4matic for $700 less and 17000 miles less, but at that it doesn't have the vent seats or keyless go. But I can do the 16/23. SO I'm wondering if the mileage is better than the estimate

Far better. I just returned from a 3500 mile trip to Florida and back and recorded 26 miles to the gallon at an average between 70 and 80 MPH. No BS.

If you drive it hard the mileage is not good. Drive sanely and you can expect 19/20 MPG with highway and city combined. Don't forget however it requires premium fuel.

My car is also a 2003 S500 4Matic.

My wifes s430 4matic gets 7.9l/100km on the hwy and 11.6l/100km city, driving it normal you start pushing it and it drinks. But this are big family cars not sport cars.

Good move!! Especially if you can use studded snow tires during the winter.

I even find 4matic useful in Florida, during torrential rains that result in pretty deep puddles on the road, very quickly. Plus, the feel of command of the road with 4matic is superior even on a dry road.

i have an 03 s600

I get 10.3 - 10.5 l / 100 km highway

that,s about 22.5-23 miles per gallon driving sanely in comfort mode, different transmission than your v8's would have tho

Crunch the numbers and you'll find there is not as large a differece in cost as you may think. If you drive 20,000 each year the extra cost each week will be $15 at 3.70 per gallon using 19 and 23 mpg.

I'm getting around 19.7 average. We got 22 mph from home to Nashville.
