Does anybody know if its cheaper to buy ballasts lamps and bits and pieces and fit into a 2002 healight unit.

You cannot easily open the casing without undoing the glue which holds the plastic to the front of the light, so every change would have to be made through the inspection hatches.

The Xenon (HID) bulb has a different fitting to the standard bulb which I think means that fitting the HID bulb into the standard socket is impossible.

I don't think it can be done.

It can be done but I wouldn't! The light output is horrible. Very annoying to people in front of you also. Very scattered! Just buy the OEM bixenons.

@Benza - and woz: Remember that he's in LHD UK - so he can't profit from the same cheaper sources we do. Otherwise I would of course have tried to pre-sell my DOT Bi-Xenons that will be surplus when my W164 arrives later this year [][]

Actually, he ca get the EURO spec Bixenons. They don't have the amber reflector inside like ours []

EUR code Xenons are a lot more expensive new than DOT ones, and even via ebay I guess RHD versions are hard to come by due to the restricted market - that's what I meant to say.

Hey Woz, if you did the retrofit (which is possible) you may have a problem getting a Mercedes dealer to activate the xenon option in your AAM. Anyways, try and contact Vik on this board (although he is in the process of disowning his ML...) about what he did.
