Hi
I was wondering what the difference was between the Xenon light upgrades for the ML (163) and the Bi-Xenon head lights?

Any difference?..
Where there different ones made? Part numbers?

i believe the xenon headlights are the old reflector style headlights with the low beams being the xenon light and high beams are halogen. Bi-xenon are the new style projector with a motor that moves the angle of the projector up and down for high beam and low beam. You could custom make a set of halogen projectors into regular xenon lights if you wanted...

pls don't spread misinformation.

the old reflector xenon is an ENTIRELY DIFFERENT capsule and assembley from the halogen reflector assembley.

retrofitting regular halogens with xenon lights is illegal and will throw a terrible light pattern for both the driver and the oncoming drivers.

There's actually quite a big difference between the two lights. Besides looking very different the quality and pattern of light is very different. Plus as referred to, the bi-xenon has hi-beam xenon (by lifting a flap in the light) whereas the older style reflector xenon is low beam only. And if you do the DREW mod, then you actually have double the high beam lighting.

Basically the newer style has more light all the time in a very specific and controlled light pattern. Plus I think it looks better on the car. A worthwhile upgrade although I Don't encourage the illegal bulb conversions also mentioned.

Do a search, there are volumes of discussions on this exact subject here.

i upgraded to the halogen projectors, and i think that they are plenty of light in case you are on a tight budget, but i agree with bigcatny, def. get the bi-xenon if u can
