I've been meaning to post this question for a while now. On my '02 ML with the Xenon headlights, are the bulbs towards the middle of the Head Light Assembly supposed to light up when High Beam is selected? I assume not since they look like Halogen bulbs and they are there for use when the Xenons are NOT used in place of the Halogen Low Beams.

I don't believe so. iirc, you'd have to do the e-code mod for all of the lights to shine on high beam.

If I'm not mistaken, the high beams on factory xenons are in the middle section. A lens raises changing the dynamics of the beam. The inner ones for you are used in flash-to-pass situations since xenons take more time to ignite... I think.

That's correct. You can do the e-code mod though to have the inner halogen lights come on with the bi-xenon highbeam for those times when you want to annoy the guy in front of you even more.
