Hey guys got a tricky one here:

The aim of both my xenons and my full beams had been great since I adjusted them last year - until recently when now there seems to be no auto adjustment going on, it feels like both the full & dipped beam are searching the skies for aircraft at all times, regardless of speed. Not getting any errors and checked all fuses.

I've seen references to the sensors rear and front that send info to the system to enable the adjustment but no real definitive walk through to doing this in other posts.

Does anyone have any great nuggets of info that may be of help before I'm off to see a specialist?

TIA!

First thing to check is the little sensor arm that is mounted on the front of the lower control arm. Make sure it is still attached at the pivot points. At least rule out the basics.

There's one on the rear axle too. That breaks. The part was £8 (about $12). I drilled the old part and fitted a nut and bolt temporarily a year ago...still works.

Sweet, cheers for the info guys, don't suppose you have any pics of exactly what I'm looking for do you?

What is the 'lower control arm'? The track rods?

Yes that's it. The rod is about £8 ($12). Or drill the unattached end and use a bolt. Edit: You're in the UK. About £8.
The part number is: A 210 328 09 34

I have an E430 with xenon in US. My headlights are pointing way down as well. I'm curious is this self leveling system part of all E430's that have xenon's or is it just for the ones in europe ? I do see the head lights adjust a little bit when I'm going through a hill etc... so not sure if they are fully adjusting to make the beams work properly and not point down so much...

If you have an MB with factory xenon, you will for sure have 2 things: 1) headlight washers, 2) leveling system. Regardless of what country.

I have the same problem with my E420. I've been trying to locate this rod. A local shop quoted me $72 bucks. Kinda high if you ask me. Where can I find this part? (No dealership on Guam). Also, if I put a bolt through the unattached side will the part still be fully operational? I'm stumped on how this rod controls the headlight beams...Enlighten me.

The rod attaches one end to the chassis and the other end to a lever which moves with the axle and moves the lights up and down. Are you sure your rod is broken as in the photo above?
