Hey,

So i'm planning on changing my grill soon, and before i go through the trouble of patching up the emblem holes on the stock grill and having it repainted and so on.. i was wondering if anybody knew were i could possibly find a Schatz grill frame for the 190?

Or does anybody possibly have a frame with the star emblem and loral leaf emblem holes patched up that they would like to sell? ..or trade, up to you.

Many thanks,

Ivan K.

You would better off doing the conversion yourself with a reliable shop, you will save yourself a ton of cash and you can spec it how you want it. Shatz grills are very hard to find and generally pop up more in europe so check eBay and websites like mercedes190.co.uk

Happy Hunting.

Yeah that's what i figured i would have to do, i just need to find a good body shop/paint shop that will match the paint nicely to the car.

Thanks for your help Kynyption, i've been keeping a close eye on the german and UK ebay, but no luck yet.

I didn't think of mercedes190.co.uk though.. i'll ask if anyone has 1 available there.. If not its time to start shopping for a good body shop in Montreal.

Many thanks!
And, looking forward to posting before and after pics!

You should contact z168 the mod in the 140 section. See what ever happened to the schatz look-a-like grille he had. Or maybe get price info and a shop name.

Hes got pictures around somewhere but i cant remember if it is here or on 190rev.

well heres' an update so far,

I've looked and looked for a schatz grill for the past month... no luck
So before i take my OEM grill to a body shop to have them fill them holes up and repaint it.

I found and bought this off ebay:
Shadowline Kühlergrill Rahmen Mercedes 190 W201 W 201 bei eBay.de: Karosserieteile (endet 03.05.09 22:34:18 MESZ)

It is apparently a plastic cover that is glued on top of the OEM grill, it blocks off the emblem holes and futhermore it is made with ABS plastic. The cover comes in matt black but can apparently be very easily painted.

The seller said the advantages of this is that it is alot more durable against rock chips and flying debri compared to the chrome grill and if you plan on painting the grill, it is alot more convenient to paint the cover (Since it is already prepped for paint) then over the chrome on the OEM gril.

What do you guys think of this? Smart buy? or does it sound like a gimmick?

Many thanks,

Ivan K.

Is there an English translation (or even French) for us that do not speak Dutch?

But from what you're saying, basically, it's just some cover. Wouldn't it make the grille look a lot thicker than stock from the sides and kinda out of place? Looks interesting..

Here straight from Babel fish translator:

ShadowLine for the chrome radiator grille Mercedes 190 W201 for a dezent sporty appearance. This concerns one approx. 1.5 mm strong mask from high-quality, flat black abs plastic. It is in such a way formed that only the original chrome parts are taken off. The effect: The grill looks as flat black coated. The cover does not require further treatment. She can being supplied, be installed, like, is waschanlagenfest and weather-proof. The assembly is to be accomplished simply (again solvable attachment by means of special adhesive strips) and thus by everyone. An appropriate guidance is provided. A special note receives the vehicle, if the cover in car color is painted. That can be done problem-free and can be accomplished by each lacquer finish specialized enterprise. The advantage: Painted plastic parts are more resistant to damages than painted chrome surfaces. For this reason the unpleasant is " Chromblitzen" by falling rocks etc. no more topic.

They say its 1.5mm thick... so hopefully it wont be obvious...
