I've had that happen with a couple of different vendors; lots of companies use regional warehouses and sometimes you luck out that way.
I've never experienced that luck from China, though. Recently I broke the screen and digitizer on my GPS and it took more than two weeks for the replacement to show up. I wasn't in a hurry anyway, and the fact that it was under $22 -- including shipping -- made it easier to wait.
