Yes. If you need it. A roof rack will cause wind noise and reduce your gas mileage, but if you need extra cargo space, a roof rack is the way to do it. Plus, it looks pretty cool. I'm planning on getting one in the near future to mount a full-size spare and other equipment for off roading. Also, you can mount auxiliary lights on a roof rack.

Do they make light bars for our trucks ?? I would like to mount some lights on my roof but I dont really want a roof rack. I may just have to get one anyway since I need a full size spare.

This looks really nice ...

You can also get light mounts, tool mounts for your shovel and recovery gear, and a tire mount. VERY nice looking piece of hardware. I'm very tempted to get it. [}:)]

Take some pics if you get it .. and let me know how you like it. I'll probably end up getting it after I get my lift installed.

Do not buy that Surco if you plan on putting any heavy weight in it, they are not too sturdy. It would be fine for just a duffle bag or maybe 1 suitcase. If you get it make sure it is lifted away from your vehicle. Alot of them use the roof of your vehicle as the floor support for the rack. They are made out of really flimsy aluminum, and the joints need Grade 8 Hardware instead of the crappy rivets the manufacturer puts in. We had to Re-inforce a bunch of Surco racks when I was Lifting Jeeps and offroading in the past.

Your best bet for a spare tire and heavy offroad gear rack is

The Garvin Industries

BVG

Con-Ferr

I had the Garvin and it's def. what I would go with again. I had a Spare Tire mount, Hi-Lift Mount and Light Tabs. The Spare Tire mount even comes with a Chain so you can lock your spare tire on the roof so nobody will steal it. Its a great rack. The Con-Ferr also has a great rack.

Also any of the Thule/Yakima rakcs are great for cargo. I'm not sure if they have any off-road accesories, but if they do it should be pretty nice.

I hope this helps a bit. I'm not trying to put down the Surco, but I just don't want to see anybody unhappy with a purchase they make.

LiquidSmile, know of any good trails out in G-Ville? I am in Raleigh and looking for some trails and someone to go on them with me.

Let me know if you know of any.

The problem with the racks you posted is that it doesnt show they are compatible or have an application for the ML. I guess our search continues...
