Folks, I’ve been presented with a truly mint, 2015, local fastidious 1-owner, 73k mile, dealer maintained 250BT that had the recall performed in ‘21,10k miles ago and has always had regular servicing. No apparent issues prior to or since the ‘recall’. I guess that gives me a remaining three years and 38k miles+ of warranty on vital emissions components.

I own a few MB’s (including a 300 TD) but have always liked the GLK and could see using it 80/20 Highway/local for 15k miles/year for my 100-mile (each way) weekend commutes to a vacation home and other Highway trips. So pretty much ideal conditions for a diesel.

I’ve been around forums long enough to know that it’s usually the people with problems that post. In a perfect world, I’d probably avoid ANY diesel now for trending reasons. But given the overall excellent history of this vehicle, is it a safe bet it will only need regular services for another few years? Any real reason to run away?

Disclaimer: This is only an opinion formed formed from various anecdotal inputs and is In no way supported by current statistics or specific relation to the 2015 model

Without knowing the recall or its impact on emissions related components, I would otherwise say there is a reasonable likelihood you will get either exhaust/DEF/DPF code, or an engine oil leak. Give a 30% probability of an annoying $2500 repair smacking you in the face within the next year or two, and knock a minimum $800 off of asking price.

Inspect the rear subframe for rust at the usual hiding spots. If it is a risk, knock another $2k off.

Update: I bought the car. I brought it to my MB dealer (location of its original purchase and all services) for a PPI, the service rep couldn't have been more complementary of it and GLK's in general. But this one in particular. It's always a gamble but this is probably one of the safer ones.

First driving impressions are generally positive. It does need rotors. But I love its manners and MPG (40.1) on the highway with cruise control set to 70 mph. Around town, until diesel and premium prices are equivalent again, it still makes sense to drive my wagon. Highway and with just the dog though, this is my new commuter BFF.

Funny aside, as I pulled into the service bay with a competing Audi' dealers tag and window sticker, I was chased down by a sales guy who appeared disturbed to see the car. He correctly identified the previous owner/client who he evidently lost to Audi for a 2-car anticipated trade.
