Hi All
I can get a 1996 C280 for $800 Canadian with 200,000 kilometres or about a 120,000 miles. Would really like any advice on what to look for etc commen problems.
I do notice it has the green antifreeze in it I know that everyone over in the W124 forum say it is a big no no. I know the paint job is horrid but it is cheap. They want $1650 but talked him down to $800
Here are some pictures

Why so cheap? He's giving it away for that price. I bought a wrecked 1995 C220 for that price just to get the engine out of it.

Those are good solid reliable cars, head gaskets can be an issue but other than that it's a smoking deal. By the paint job looks excellent for an $800 car.

The story is lost his job. The car was listed for $1650.00 but I mentioned the two tone paint and how it had the green antifreeze in it. So that needed to be replaced. He came back with an offer of $1,000 I held my ground and said was pretty firm with my offer He just emailed and asked when do you want to do the deal for $800
I have a 1988 300CE which is a driving project car This C280 will be my daily driver so I need reliability My 1998 Golf clutch just died(think the release bearing went as it was just like breaking a clutch cable) So this would need to be on the road everyday
I really know nothing about these models I found out the hard way I really knew nothing about the W124s and do not need to make the same mistakes again
So any help would be great

For that price, the car is practically free. I would get the car and spend some money removing the two-tone and removing the black paint from the wheels and standardising the car. I would get the car, I don't know the going rate of those cars in Canada, but where I live, it's worth at least 4 or 5 times that price.

If you really want to know what you're getting into with tha car, and you're in Toronto, take it to my mechanic. He is in the Keele/Finch area and is an MB specialist. I think his shop rate is 90 an hour or thereabouts. If you want to make sure you aren't buying a landmine, get a PPI done so you know exactly what you are getting yourself into.
