Hello Merc fellows,

I am kinda new to the Merc world although always been a fan. I am wondering if it worth buying a w210 E320 from 1996 with 250,000 miles on the clock for 2500 dollar? I know that it depends on the maintenance history, but what is your opinion regardless of that. I want to buy it for an everyday use and not driving for long distance. I am in Sweden and this is the link for the car:

Have pre-purchase inspection. Look for oil leaks, ticking and knocking noises. Look for rust. Look at date code on tires. And so on. Car should be as close to "needs nothing" condition as possible.
I am surprised it has a 5 speed transmission. In the USA we have them on 1997 and + models. Looks good. The ad says it has 24,000 miles :). It has minimal electronics (manual seats, a/c etc. ), so less stuff to worry about.

Have you driven it around and feel comfortable with how it drives? If so, it looks like a reasonable buy. A typical 1996 E320 in the USA would be in terrible shape, torn seats, rust, leaks everywhere, neglected maintenance. I think people look after their their cars better in Europe.

Do these model years have to pass Swedish motor safety inspections ?

Nice clean car. If mechanicals have been maintained as well as the cosmetics, I'd go for it. Budget $1k to $2k for routine maintenance, i.e. fluid changes, filters, brake wear, window regulators, running gear. Good luck and let us know what you decide! These are great, reliable cars.
Looks nice. Does that have the M104 Inline 6 or the M112 V6? If it has the inline 6, be aware that as they aged many had to have head gaskets. Otherwise a good engine. The M112 V6 with care is near bulletproof. There was a Swiss owner on Facebook with a C240 (M112) with 750,000 miles.

I got a chuckle - one of the pictures shows trash bags full of ....something in the back seat. You would have thought they'd at least take the trash bags out of the car when photographing it,

If that has the Automatic 5 speed 722.6 transmission the early versions had a few problems with mileage - I have one on my 1996 SL500 (first year in the USA) and had to have it replaced at 155,000 miles. According to one resident expert they underwent 3 major revisions. By 2000, they were near bulletproof as long as you change the fluid and filter every 50,000 miles or so.

As others said get a good pre purchase inspection - the money you spend for that could be a bargain in seeing sometinkg serious that - if owned - would cost you $$$$
