MBUSA has agreed to offer sliding-scale coverage to: (1) reimburse certain amounts that owners or lessees of Subject Vehicles paid out-of-pocket for certain repairs to address fading or discoloration; and (2) cover certain amounts for future repairs to address fading or discoloration. Coverage will include inspection of the vehicle by an authorized Mercedes-Benz dealer to diagnose the possible cause of any observed fading, discoloration, or development of a cloudy appearance.

Warranty coverage will be extended on the following sliding scale of coverage from 4 years to 15 years from the original warranty start date.
• Period One is defined as the time period during which the Subject Vehicle has or had fewer than four years (48 months) from the Subject Vehicle’s original in-service date. For Period One, you may claim 100% of the warranty repair cost.
• Period Two is defined as the time period from the end of Period One until the Subject Vehicle has or had fewer than eight years (96 months) from the Subject Vehicle’s original in-service date. For Period Two, you may claim 75% of the warranty repair cost. This means that the other 25% must be collected from the customer.
• Period Three is defined as the time period from the end of Period Two until the Subject Vehicle has or had fewer than ten years (120 months) from the Subject Vehicle’s original in-service date. For Period Three, you may claim 55% of the warranty repair cost. This means that the other 45% must be collected from the customer.
• Period Four is defined as the time period from the end of Period Three until the Subject Vehicle has or had fewer than thirteen years (156 months) from the Subject Vehicle’s original in-service date. For Period Four, you may claim 50% of the warranty repair cost. This means that the other 50% must be collected from the customer.
• Period Five is defined as the time period from the end of Period Four until the Subject Vehicle has or had fewer than fifteen years (180 months) from the Subject Vehicle’s original in-service date. For Period Five, you may claim 30% of the warranty repair cost. This means that the other 70% must be collected from the customer.
Goodwill No Longer Allowed: In light of the significant benefits that are being provided under the settlement agreement, the Subject Vehicles are no longer eligible for goodwill consideration for repair or replacement.

Does this settlement mean that the Subject Vehicles are defective? No. The Court has not decided in favor of the plaintiffs. MBUSA denies the material factual allegations and legal claims asserted by the plaintiffs and settlement class members, including allegations that the “Burl Walnut Trim” is defective in any way.

Does the fading or discoloration of the Burl Walnut Trim mean the vehicle is defective? No. Fading or discoloration of the Burl Walnut Trim, can occur due to a wide range of potential causes, including external influences such chemical exposure, harsh or abrasive cleaners, accidents, or alterations. An authorized Mercedes-Benz Service Center will need to inspect a vehicle to diagnose the possible cause of any observed fading or discoloration of the Burl Walnut Trim.

Great information. Was there a September 2021 deadline to make the claim in order to even be eligible? ( That is what my dealer is telling me.) Also, any idea of the actual charge for this repair. I recall reading $3000-3500 in a forum. My vehicle is a 2013 E 350 Sedan.

BS! The ‘actual’ settlement went into effect on January 23, 2023 inclusive of warranty extended up to 15 years. Dealer should provide cost estimate. Depending on ‘in service date’ you vehicle is either period 3 @ 55% or 4 @ 50%.

Thanks for the info! Much appreciated. BTW is the $3000-3500 range for the entire job, accurate?

Thanks, this is great information. Now to decide: Is it worth $750 (25% of the $3000 estimate) to have my 2016 trim replaced when it still looks decent? Why replace it with the same junk that's going to fail again? I wonder if we could pay the difference to upgrade to the open pore wood which hopefully won't fade.

I'm now the 2nd owner of a 2015 E250 with faded and grey-looking Burl Walnut Trim that I bought just this past week. If I take it to my local dealer next week will I still be able to get it replaced, you think? I would be in the "Period 2" where they pay 75% and I pay 25% for it to be replaced. But when I went to the online settlement website it said something about that September date last year to file to become a part of the class action. Has anybody who bought a car since September or didn't register by the September date had any luck getting the dealer to replace the wood?

Mine falls in the 50% group. The wood is faded/hazy and I was wondering why that is. $3000 to replace the wood at the dealership sounds like even with the 50% discount the dealer is making a hefty profit., I will not go that route. Sounds like a settlement with no teeth in it.

I had mine replaced on my 2011 back in 2014/2015. I live in Florida, I have limo tint on the windows and use a windshield sun protector 99.9% of the time my car is parked outside. The fron dash wood will eventually fade no matter how much you try to take care of it. the rest of the inside of my car still looks new because of the precautions I took. If you're not going to hide your car from the sun with dark tinted windows or a sun screen then it will eventually fade again and again.
Just my 2 cents for anyone who's considering shelling out money for this.

Mine isn't burl walnut but still suffers from this. And I have to pay, a significant amount? Not going to even bother, my vehicle is nearing ten years old and while I may or may not hang onto it for another ten years, I just don't think this is worthwhile. Would love to hear from owners here and their dealership experiences who have actually had this done, though?

Is there a site where one can enter a VIN to see if the vehicle is eligible and then follow up with the dealer?

I took my car to RBM of Atlanta Mercedes dealership and I fall into the category where I pay 25% and they cover 75% and I was just quoted $1,533.50 therefore they must be trying to charge $6,134 for the replacement of all the wood trim in a 2015 E250. This seems VERY HIGH. Has anyone actually had this done at the dealership or gotten other quotes? I could understand my cost being $1,533.50 if I was in Period Three owing the 45% but at 25% I would think this is robbery! If anyone has gotten an actual quote please post here.

$6K. these dealerships are actual f'ing criminals. It'd be better if you took a portion of that $1500 and got a good independent shop to do the work for you, it shouldn't even cost that much at full price at an indy dealership, provided you can get your hands on the parts.
