WONT REV OVA 5 THOUSAND???

My 97 e200 is gutless when i drive off.When i rev it up it sounds like it chokes itself before revving up and also wont rev over 5 thou ...like it has a rev limiter???..New maf didnt fix it .!!!..Any suggestion greatly appreciated...

167 on the clock..new plugs 6 months ago, just checked them,little dirty but not 2 bad..New petrol pump,new battery,new maf,nearly new plugs,..Could those symtoms be due to limp mode caused by trans probs? Seems like its playing up since these things started...Strange shifts and slight vibration through the auto shift stick at about three thousand revs...This car has cost me alot in the past year but i shoulda checked it better before i purchased it....Like R P said....Nobodys fault but mine....
