I want to set up winter wheels/tires for our 2007 GL. The options for our 19" wheels are very limited and expensive. The 18" options are better, but still very expensive. Does anyone know if the 17" wheels from an ML will work? The 17 tire options are much better. I know it may look a little funny but functionality is key for me in the winter. Thanks

Which engine do you have? 17" might work with the cdi and the 450, but I doubt the 550 it must have larger brakes. Cross the front brakes-if they are the same as a ML then no problem, just make sure you can source an appropriate tire in 17", the GL would need a tire bigger then 235/65/17 which was the stock size in 17.

Thanks. I have the CDI. Agree I will need a larger/taller tire for the GL. I have a set of 265/70 - 17 Bridgestone Blizzaks from our last Suburban, so if the wheels work I plan to mount these up and give it a go.

It appear the rotors and pads are the same for the ML and GL series in the 2006 - 2009 range in several references I checked. Based on that is seems reasonable that the 17" ML wheels should fit and clear the brakes of a GL, especially the 320 CDI.

Anyone have data to the contrary?

I bought some MB 18" takeoff wheels on Ebay and some Toyo winter tires.
Works great on my 2009 GL320. I wouldnt go with 17".
After installing 18in wheels for winter use, I'd also say don't buy 17in for GL.
