To me it seems integral to the weather strip around the A-pillar (#59)? I have not removed that so I don't know for sure, just looking at the EPC. I've also attached another picture, but it does not reveal a part that looks like the gasket you need :-(

What year is your friend's car? They changed the A-pillar gasket in the hardtop due to leaks the first few years. Maybe they did the same on the car? So it may be that your car has an old gasket? And his has a new?

Otherwise it's #59 in that diagram.

There's no separate gasket. Its part of #59, the gasket for the windshield/windscreen. I circled the part of the gasket in question in red. It's the protrusion.

Maybe yours were cut and removed for some reason (i.e. someone adapting the car to better fit an earlier hard-top comes to mind). At this point, I'd suggest you remove piece #26 in the diagram below, and then the chrome trim piece and actually look at your gasket. And remove your friend's to compare. It's simple, and only a few screws.

Heck, yours may be there, working just fine, just cut to perfectly fit so the previous owner didn't have to see the rubber.

Well, I'm one to admit when I was wrong. And I was wrong. I pulled the top soft-top hydraulic piston in my friend's '96 SL320 today. While there, I removed the chrome cover on top of the a-pillar. (the 4th picture has it mounted. The second picture shows the chrome piece removed, sitting upside down across the top of the windshield) There is a separate gasket here underneath the chrome piece. It wraps around the exterior of the A-pillar, and is the rubber with the hole of the screw that holds that top chrome trim piece in. It's the rubber that looks kinda like velcro in the pictures.

So, you guys are right. It is there. Maybe it comes with that chrome trim (part 167 in post #2 of this thread). Or maybe it's part # 158, if that's rubber. But otherwise, I'm with you. I have no idea.
