The window sill plastic trim is peeling off. I have the SS replacement trim pieces. My question is should I wait for all of the shiny stuff to peel off or try to remove it before installing the new trim pieces? It's taking forever to come off. Some of you have replaced this so how did you do it?

Same problem and question - 2009 ML350.
Guys, I went thru this for my 2009 ML350 for the sills (called belt weather strips) and the black vertical molding (MB website calls this Applique - MB (164-690-04-87-64). I originally needed to replace all 4 belt weather strips and bought some cheap ones on eBay. After one year, they were already peeling so I went the OEM route and these have a warranty. I also replaced the vertical molding (mine were badly graying). Wasn't real hard to pop the old sills off and put the new ones on. Pretty much same with the vertical Applique molding. Ended up being worth the price to get the real deal. I am very fortunate because I found out that the MB dealership up the street from me has a wholesale website (not advertised) that I found by happenstance in searching for parts on the net. So now, I go directly to them for everything and just drive 2 miles to pick items up and get about 30%-40% discount off of reg parts desk prices. Recently did this with replacing both batteries and with the discount, pricing was just about same as going to Batteries Plus and I felt more confidant with the OEM parts.
