One of my windows has a problem; when the auto-close feature is used, the window stops raising and goes back down an inch. Closing the window manually all the way by holding the switch (i.e., not pushing the switch past the detent) works perfectly.

Does the fact that the window self-lowers a bit when auto-close is used indicate this is the "pinch protection" feature being activated, or could my issue still possibly be a faulty window regulator? Is there any way to know for sure?

At this stage I haven't yet lubricated the window tracks.

Can anyone add further to this - does the nature of my problem simply indicate "pinch protection" is activating; or could the problem still be the regulator (or something else)?

Thanks for the replies. The window in question moves up just as fast as the others, but does sound a bit different when going up. I will try some silicone spray in the tracks and report back. I notice that in wet weather, the window tends to auto-close successfully; auto-close also works correctly for a few times after using the procedure wallyp mentioned earlier (holding the button done for ~10 seconds after it closes to reset the window).

Hi,

I think the Window or its Mechanism is running tight, and therefore when DCM sees the current drawn by the Motor go over it's programmed threshold it will activate "Pinch Protection Mode" and back down the Window a bit :wink

Yeah I think so too Dave. Apparently it's a feature that can be turned off via SDS (and was from factory, from '02 onwards), but I probably won't go to that length to fix it.
Hi,

Is it possible this particular DCM is coded with Pinch Protection 'ON' and your other ones aren't ??

I'd want to fix it, :laugh , but I am very anal with all my Cars :grin

I didn't know MB Coded that feature off after '02, I will have to have a look in my DCM's when I finally get my Workshop sorted, and can finish my Car off.............

Bloody rain again today, and I'm playing a Wedding tomorrow, so won't get much done on the Workshop Extension until at least Thursday now

I'm not sure if my Car has Pinch Protection Enabled, but I know all the Windows 'Auto Close' fine :wink

Cheers Dave

It's possible, but my car is a 2000 model so theoretically all DCM's should have had pinch protection enabled from factory. I suspect it's a resistance issue in the tracks.
I'd like to play around with it in SDS but without having direct access to it, it can become expensive. But if I get codes read I'll definitely get them to have a look into that part of the DCM's.

It's getting cold down here now (although not by Scottish standards) but not much rain of late. Have a good one :)

Hi,

Yeah, or maybe the other 3 DCM's have been replaced with new ones at some point in time :wink

DCM's are not noted for being the most reliable thing on these Cars :wink

We had 29 degrees last week, when I was building and fixing the wall frames up, then rain and midges over the weekend :grin

Cheers Dave
