window motor broke

today...my rear pax side windows motor 'broke'....

this is the second time that i've had a window motor go out on me..the first one was the drivers. that i could understand as its used the most, but this one probably went up and down a dozen times in 15 years.

perhaps thats actually why it broke. the dealer told me that they made these motors and lift mechanisms with quite light metal...hence the breakage is a common issue. thats true even for some of the newer models.

anyway. new unit is too expensive, so have sourced a used unit...for about $120.

lets hope it works when it goes in tomorrow.

I feel your pain. My 1989 300SE has given me very few service problems, except that it has gone thru at least 2 window fixes on each of the 4 windows. It is a common problem. My mechanic says to stop pushing the switch immediately, once the window has reached the top. My wife thinks he's crazy. She won't be that careful about it, so I just keep replacing.
i know what you mean.

the door was opened today....and it seems the motor itself is fine, as are the 'teeth', but the problem is the little white plastic part at the end of the rising arm...that has broken into two.

the mechanic said that it was probably forced...

come to think of it, i believe my 4 yr old daughter opened the window yesterday...probably not all the way...and leaned out...possibly putting her weight onto the glass, and therefore on the stupid white plastic part!!!!

and that it seems that Mercedes does not make or supply the little plastic part on its own...you gotta buy the whole thing!!!???

i'm still waiting for feedback. in the meantime, the car door is open till a replacement machine comes back.
fixed

wheeeee[:D]

problem fixed........ my mechanic managed to wangle a new plastic end onto my original motor and rising arm...and it works like new.

so much for benz saying it cant be done[:(!]
