What does it look like under the hatch? I don't like the idea that you can't see the winch spooling. Even with a 9000lbs winch, you loose over 1500lbs pulling power with every layer of wire or rope on the spool.

Other than that, I think that it looks GREAT! I also like the fact that it protects your line from UV.
It seems very rugged!

How much did it cost?

There is a plate over the winch that just lifts off, and then the access is very good all around. Keeps the mud out very effectively - see pic.

It was a tad pricey, since it was custom designed and made for my G. I got it from a company here in San Diego - www.aluminess.com - and it was approx $2,000. The other option was the Europa for $3,500 plus $1,500 (?) more for the bullbars from MBUSA. I like this design better anyway.

I got the winch because I regularly do a surf trip to Baja that involves a 105 mile off-road section (south from San Ignacio), with about 30 miles being on salt-pan. I've been towed out of the salt pan twice (that's a short description of two very long stories). The best way out is to winch to another vehicle. I'm hoping that the new 16" wheels (thanks Sean) will help a bit, since I'll be able to air-down now (that didn't acheive much with the stock wheels and tyres)

Those are the 16 inchers in the photo - they are identical to the 18" in every detail (except size), so its a subtle change. You can't get an 18" AT in any of the three circumferences that are recognized by the computer. Hence the move to 16". Even if you weren't worried about the computer, there is still no AT-type tyre that really fits well.

However, I now have a bunch of 18" rims that I'm happy to sell off one by one if anyone needs spares. I originally thought I'd keep a set of 18" rims with street tyres, and the 16" rims with ATs, but the ride is so good on the ATs that I don't see much need for the 18" option.

So far, my MBNZ dealer can't program the computer for the new tires - they claim that all the settings are password protected, and dealers can't get past it to change anything. They just see the diagnostics part. Anyone else had their MBUSA G500 changed to a new rolling circumference?

Any chance your 18"s are the AMG rims? I wouldn't mind having the AMG 18"s since they are wider and the Nittos would be closer to the accepted rim width. Realistically if I went to the trouble of new rims I would just get the 16"s like you have though.

Free 18" wheel in San Diego

Sorry mb230s - they are just the standard G500 MBUSA rims.

One of them is a bit scratched up from having been shoved back on the rear door in a hurry (another long story), so if anyone wants a really cheap spare, I'll make you a great deal. If you can pick it up in San Diego, you can have it for nothing. It has an unused Yoko on it.

Also have a complete G500 bumper if anyone needs one. Cheap.

And running boards.

And spare-wheel cover.
