Yesterday I had received the 2012 M Class I had got it at a pretty good price however I have heard the 2013 model would be selling in a few days. I was wondering what the changes would be if there are any and if I made a good move.
Test drove both brand new - almost the same packages.
1. more responsive steering
2. more compact and better sound isolation (2012 feels not sealed well)
3. less back seat vibrating (ground noise penetration)
4. much less ground noise
5. more responsive acceleration
6. much better suspension especially feeling from back seat
6 is due to 3 and 4, in addition, 2012 bounces multiple times when tire hits uneven spot - a proof of under-par suspension. 2013 better absorbs the shock by coordinating all 4 wheels.
though 2012 gives $7k discount while 2013 not even $5000, 2013 is clearly a much better choice.
also need to mention driver won't feel much difference other than ground noise.
Since 2012 is a new design, lots of comfort features were not tuned to optimum. 2013 definitely improved driving capability catching up to X5; while meantime greatly improved comfort - big achivement considering those two, driving and comfort, kind of compromise each other.
