Will an ML tail gate fit inside an ML?

Local PnP has a 2005 350 in silver. I planned to make a run for my BMW but will now grab some MB parts too.

Does anyone know if the tailgate fits inside the vehicle? It looks like it might if I go diagonal but not 100% sure....
