Yes, mine does this too. First car I've ever had that turns the recic off after a few minutes. Probably to let fresh air in, like said above.

Yep, normal. Diesel fumes may stink but they're remarkably not very dangerous.
Actually, the particulate matter in diesel fumes is bad for you, though your cabin filter may or may not trap these. But one of the reasons the recirculation turns off is that continuous use causes moisture build up in the system allowing biological things to grow which biological things and or their spores then circulate through the car, also bad for you.

There are fewer small particulates in diesel exhaust than in gasoline exhaust, but more large particulates in diesel exhaust. Those tend to fall to the ground quickly or get trapped by the cabin filter. The small particulates are the worst because they get deep into your lungs.
