Hi can you please help me? I have a 1990 300sel and when the car is idling, the engine sounds like it chokes, the rpms fall, but then rise again. This happens almost every few seconds. The car does not stall, and when I am moving everything sounds okay.

Do you know what might be the problem? Thanks alot!

Sounds like a small vacuum leak to me.

Check the condition of the cap and rotor.

Would not a bad cap/rotor present problems with starting?

Actually, no. not on my car, anyway. It started well but ran rough. Turned out the oil seal for the distributor cap was leaking and fouling the innards.
