My front driver's side window was smashed by vandals. So I've been scouring ebay with no luck, and my mechanic's supplier doesn't have it either.

The glass holder/bracket seems different from everything I've looked at. I'm wondering if there is another model I can substitute.

Both of these are listed for the 560SEL but is there a difference really? Someone here may chime in with knowledge on that score.. or a helpful parts guy the dealership can tell you too.. A body shop has great crash books for estimating. They could tell you as well about cross referencing 560 to 420, if need be.

Ordering new from the MB dealership?

I think the smart thing to do in this case is bite the silver bullet and call the dealer. Give them time to get the window in, drive your beast in, let them fix it, and get on with your life.
Oh! And move to a neigborhood where they don't bash in car windows!LOL

I think these are really the same Left Front door glass / Drivers door glass.. Gotta be man… Mercedes just refined the W126 along the way.. no major facelifts to speak of….
Even calling a glass company could tell you what you want to know… whether its the same door glass I mean..

Yes, I've seen that one. It's close, but it's not the same. So, I'm still unsure. I've actually been watching them on ebay for more than a month and have yet to see a bottom bracket that looks like mine.

I love the junkyard, but I hate the idea of popping door panel after door panel to see if the bracket is a match.

I realize different states have differing insurance coverages & mandates…

Here in Taxachusetts my insurance covers glass breakage with zero deductible.

I make an appointment with the glass company.. They take all my info .. call my insurance company, order the parts.. do the appointment & install..

I'd imagine I could get the insurance company to authorize repair at the MB dealership too.

Is no different, unless you are comparing with the ones from the rear doors (the mechanism is different on the rear doors). The front window glass on 300SE&SEL/420SEL/560SEL are all the same.

Any 86 and up SEL glass should do. I would check the glass & install dealer price and go to a wrecking yard or dismantler. Take a few tools, (check the manual on top).
Its fairly simple and doesn't need a mechanic.

SE too (any four door sedan, 300SE too) because he is looking for the front door, which is the same size, and that that will give him more chances. I got parts from a front 91 300SE for my 89 420SEL front door. They fit.

It's good to see so many people participating on this forum.

One of my concerns is that the window/regulator etc. might not be original to the car. It may have been replaced at one time. I've only had the car for less than a year. I've looked at lots of windows on ebay and none look like mine at the bottom.

Is it different on the rear glass then between different W126 models?

I have just bought a rear glass from a forum member for my 87 420SEL which I think is sourced from another slightly different engine variant W126 '86 - 91 model.

The window has not been shipped yet..., but is due to be shipped today or tomorrow, so any advice or confirmation on this would be much appreciated! :thumbsup:
