I see this subject has been discussed. Funny thing is the thread "Moron Alert" was started the month I bought my SL. More expensive than a drug habit. The difference is, druggies can get help. I'm afraid my condition is hopeless and helpless. I plan on spending more.

Never hurts to have a reminder that you should know what you're getting into when you buy a 107 (or any other car, for that matter!)

Thanks for the post Werner. Makes me feel a little better about my experience. Not much, but a little!

I'm glad my post was therapeutic for you Chief. I guess I was looking for a little therapy myself.

I bought the SL about the same time my second child started college. When I look at what I spent in the last two years on the SL and divide by two, it comes to about the same as what I pay for each of my two annually at the State University of Binghamton NY. So I guess I can say I'm putting three through college. :banghead:

Fortunately therapy comes from driving TDWD on a sunny day which is forecast for Friday. :D::eclipsee_steering:

That's why we do it! I've had several convertibles over the years, and hadn't had one for quite a while when I bought the SL. Glad I did- It's a great thing on a warm sunny day!

I haven't added it up yet because I'm not done. Hopefully my only other expense will be the back section of the exhaust and the paint/prep work. We'll see...

What do you mean?
from my point of view, even with the market the way it is right now and replacing the top/misc. you could still sell for a profit...

What's the use of being a smart-ass if nobody realizes I'm being a smart-ass. :D

I was actually bragging, not about my expertise in picking a good car, but about my dumb luck.

Possibly more Abiby...

You're getting real close to needing a new chain & guides if they haven't been done. Maybe too close?

Regards,
Kevin

Do we get to count all of the money we spent on tools and shop equipment?

Double row chain was installed around 25k ago. That was followed by new paint & recovered seats, as well as a recent exhaust system. Did I mention the new battery the week before I bought it?

Granted it's a 27yr old car which could go belly up at any time, but I feel pretty safe.

Ussun you got me beat. And wow, was that your repair list or a dealers parts catalog?:wtf:

And Rowdie tools are one thing but I'd sure hate to add up the hours and charge myself for labor.

All I've done is fluids, new visors ($350!), tires ($800), and the timing chain and guides ($1300). The SL has been a wonderfully reliable car.
