JFC... imagine if they were guns.

Sitting in the Oval Office with Alex M. Azar II, the secretary of Health and Human Services, and Dr. Ned Sharpless, the acting Food and Drug Administration commissioner, President Trump acknowledged that there was a vaping problem, and said, “We’re going to have to do something about it.

Mr. Azar said that the F.D.A. would outline a plan within the coming weeks for removing most flavored e-cigarettes from the market.

They've got you right where they want you, now. My newsfeed has quite a few singing the chorus "vaping is bad." Click the links of the news reports, buried way down below the attention span of most is mention that it was THC products, vitamin E(????) or other oils, stuff bought off the street, that's causing all the issues. But, brace yourself, you must not impact the tobacco tax revenues nor the sales the big tobacco and pharmaceutical companies.

^ An untaxed (and highly profitable) industry you mean. Why do you think "big tobacco" was so quick to invest?

They pay taxes like any other US corporation. Big tobacco got into as to maintain market share... they could be selling bleach 'juice' for all they care.

Yeah, but what about the tobacco product "sin taxes"? Aren't vape products exempt?

And you're right. They would sell bleach juice if they thought they could get away with it.

An unregulated industry... what were the odds of lasting this long.
Yeah, and those flavors must go "for the children." Really odd they'll allow cigarettes (aka - known killers) to be sold in stores with a "don't sell to minors" law and trust those cashiers to do that, but won't trust them when it comes to this (competing) alternative.
Oh, well, guess that goes to show you this federal government is, indeed, owned.

Gotta keep that bad "vaping stuff" away from kids because, damn, we CARE.

We can give guns to teachers and sell armored backpacks to kids though because, damn, we CARE.

WTF ever.....

The vaping industry is not one giant conglomerate with pockets deep enough to have its own PAC and an army of lobbyists and therefore are vulnerable to these types of retarded knee jerk reactions.

But check out how "big tobacco" is involved in the vaping industry. All those "mainstream" e-cigarettes (vaping by another name), for example. It's a HUGE market these days and you can bet your ass the likes of Phillip Morris, BAT, etc. haven't been sitting idly by.

Yes, and that's code for "the federal government is, indeed, owned."
Regulation is done to protect market share.

I said as much.

Regulation is done to protect market share.

That's too much of a blanket statement... the ones written by industries, yes, but regulations are also there so that we don't give lead laden lollipops to kids, for example. In fact a complete lack of regulations is what has exposed the vaping industry for the wild west ecosystem that it is.

We moved beyond lead laden lollipops some time ago, and protecting the children is the smokescreen (pun intended) typically used to get us to accept industries (with market share) writing regulations. I'd guarantee whatever regulations exist or will exist for the vaping industry will be signed off on by the big tobacco and pharmaceutical companies (big tobacco in particular, since they were aimed at ownership of the industry).
