05 SLK350 with 9000 miles. I just noted that there is a whistling sound from the engine. The sound would get louder and higher pitch with the RPM getting higher.
Does anyone have the same problem or it's normal?

whistling or whining? I had a idler pulley bearing starting to fail that made a noticable whining sound that changed pitch with RPM.

As a test, and, if you are mechanically inclined, you can remove the serpentine (accessory) belt and fire it up. Give it a few shots of gas and see if the noise is gone. Then you will know if it is a tensionner or idler (or if it is even belt drive related.) You can run it for three or four minutes, maybe a little longer, just look out for the engine temp. The only problem you can get from this is overheating if you are not careful, or battery drain.

Join the club. The very same part number was replaced in my 280 and it also didn't solve the problem. Another piece of info on the dealer invoice was "Check and found MBZ Bulletin P-B-13.22/01. Applied. Replaced upper guide pulley to eliminate noise". It seems those dealer mechanics tend to browse the service bulletins and apply whatever they find rather than trying to find the actual cause. I was told there are EIGHT pulleys in that engine. On mbslk.de, there were at least two reports from guys who had to get two pulleys replaced before the problem went away.
