Weren't the S500 Grand's modifications largely cosmetic, which can be duplicated for a moderate cost? The S600 distinguishes itself in a more substantive way. Agree?

Being of a thrifty scotish heritage myself I drive a s320. BUT I'd rather be wild and crazy and drive a 12. But my ancestors would be spinning in their graves.

It's funny you should ask that, I myself am selling my 93 500SEL to upgrade to either a 99 Grand Edition or a 99 S600. I could honestly live with either. You can make a grand out of a regular S500 but it would not ever really be a Grand Edition. If you are worried about cost, I'd say go with the 500 Grand Edition just because the V8 is more than enough power and the repair and maintance costs are much lower than the V12 S600. However, if cost is no object, I would buy the 600 just because there are only 14 in the United States and I know for a fact that one has a salvaged title. The 600 is basically for show and is not really necessary unless you want to show off that big V12 emblem and the shinny "600" in the rear (which I would love to do)!!

dantefr....how do you find out how many v 12's there are? i have a '96 s600 and wonder how many of them there are...just curious...oh, and for ghost: i'd definately go for the 600. it is world class. [8D]

I just looked found that information by looking around the forum, and talking to my local Mercedes dealer when I went to buy a 99 S600. []

I too am curious as to the total production numbers for my 96 S600 - but mine was manufactured in / imported from Germany. Any Ideas where I can find the total production numbers for Germany? Does the VIN define the production number in part?

Well all Mercedes-Benz are manufactured in Germany. I just know from looking around the forum how many 99 S600's were sent to the United States. If I were you, I'd try the Mercedes-Benz website and see what you can find....[]
