Behind the air filter housing to the left as you look at the engine is the dip stick tube. The plastic cover has a small red clip that can be removed using a small flat screwdriver pushing the red part downwards gently, this will unlock the cap.

To check the fluid level, first run the engine until the engine is a working temperature approx and thus the transmission fluid will be at 80c. The engine should remain running whilst you check the fluid level.

If you need to add fluid then do so via the dip stick tube and a small funnel will be required for this and only use recommended MB fluid.

Lastly have the transmission checked for leaks, as this part of the car is very expensive if it goes seriously wrong.

If the plastic cover (air cleaner housing) has not been removed for some time, it may well be stuck.

First slide off the 2 front intake tubes where they attach to the cover. There are 4 clips on the plastic cover that pop over rubber studs on the engine - 2 at the front, 2 at the rear. Grasp the cover firmly with one hand on each side and jerk it upwards. Have the hood in the vertical position, or you will damage your knuckles... It's a good idea to grease the clips before you replace the cover.

While in there, consider replacing the 2 air filters. When refitting the cover, make sure it is correctly home by banging firmly on the top. Otherwise you may get fault codes.
