Mercedes Benz 2003 C320 COupe.

Where can I order a rear SAM module for my car? Has anyone replaced one, and what do they go for?

After my car died, I had my alternator and battery replaced and the mechanic was unable to get the battery/alternator warning off. He believes its the SAM.

I also got on fixya.com and payed a MB Specialist. He also believes its the rear SAM.

There are no error codes showing up from diagnostics.

Can the SAM be reset or will it cause major problems?

You can probably get a SAM from the dealer or online like at parts.com, but I'm somewhat sure that it has to be programmed by the dealer, but not 100% sure.

BTW, do you know what causes the SAM to go out? Jump starting the car or hooking up the battery in the wrong sequence. Next time you need a battery, call the 800 number in your glovebox, they will come out and install the battery for free (plus the cost of the battery of course).

SAM

i might be of some help, about a week ago my left rear license plate light would turn off and back on every like 10 seconds.. then it started a shortage in my car(i guess) which lead to my battery dieing.. because every now and then i'd come to turn my car on and the car would barely start.. so i changed that battery.. didn't help my problem, finally had the time to check out my car problems and turns out my rear SAM gave away and was causing a shortage + the blinking license light.. so i changed the SAM.. costed me 260 $ original new.. could have got one for 200 $ used .. the guy then configured my ECU to work with my new SAM and also my HID conversion.. he only took 20$. no more starting/battery problem no more blinking license light. And i have no idea if u can reset a SAM.

Thanks For the reply DanielFD. You know I was having similar problems with a malfunction warning every now and then stating my license plate light needs replacement. It would go off and maybe a few days later it would pop back up. I did have a mechanic replace my battery and alternator and my car runs great. The only problem now is that darn Battery/Alternator malfunction display wont go off.

The update is I took it to 2 mechanics now. Both MD certified. They both get absolutely no error codes when using their diagnostics. My main mechanic said to disconnect the battery for 24 hours and see if it resets. He says that all I will have to do is reconfig. my windows, and turn my steering wheel all the way to the left and right.

Does anyone know if this will cause any problems(disconnecting the battery)? My mechanic states that it wont.

SDS won't always show the problem...mechanic needs to go in a check current draw.

No prob, btw really weird thing happened this morning.. my check battery alternator light came on after i started up, even though the car had no trouble at all starting even while the temp outside was 0 Degrees Celsius. after turning off the car and waiting for the display to turn off, i then turned back on and no battery alternator.. i guess the code could be stuck somewhere in the ECU, i really have no idea about how the ECU's storage system works.. though i might have read somewhere on the forum that the ECU resets after like i think 15 min with that battery unplugged.. though i can't confirm it, better search it.. theirs also a topic somewhere about the effects of disconnecting the battery, and what things need to be calibrated, most important thing would be to make sure u have your radio code.. i heard when u disconnect the battery your radio needs some kind of code, though i have no idea where the code is.. i think you have to access it from somewhere first, btw i just noticed you have a c320 coupe... sick dude i wish i had the 320.. though i like the sound of my engine a lot more. keep us updated with what you do and what happens.. i might as well disconnect the battery too if it helps

I bought my SAM from Rusty at Peach Parts. A virgin uncoded SAM will certain functions useless like the speedometer and turn signals.

I went to an independent Mercedes only shop and they were cool with it. Charged me $100 to code the SAM and 'clear out few errors' they said.

Better than any dealer quote I ever got. The waiting room wasn't as nice and no carwash or vacuum included.
