Whoo Hoo!!! I finally scored a set of Euro Headlights! However, they could use a good cleaning and the gaskets for the lenses are full of cracks. I've been trying to find some but the only ones that I'm finding are the gaskets for the back of the headlight assembly. Does anyone know where I can get gaskets for the lenses?

Thanks for the help. I've bought parts from them in the past. I'll have to give them a call. The gaskets that they show look like the ones for the back. I hope they're the right ones.

Hey Mirv,

I can wholeheartedly recommend premium gaskets from sls-hh in Germany. Quality and fit are Mercedes-like, just priced more reasonably. I used their seals for other areas and very happy with the outcome. Here's some pics of rebuilt Euro lights incl. vacuum adjustment from the sls as well.

Wow! I'm Impressed! I'll check them out, thanks! Way more than I plan to do with mine. What did you use to polish the reflectors?

Mirv,
You need the Euro Headlight gray color Lens Seals correct?, not the headlight lamp seal. I realize you have already ordered but just make sure its description says "LENS Seals. miko1aj is correct as the SLshop is a great source for mostly ever part for the Euro Headlight. Another shop, a bit cheaper is, PW-Headlights Shop - Mercedes 107 SL headlight – 1 piece right. I bought from them last year.
If you needs the adjustment screws, rubber buffers, and hat type nuts you can improvise. I have extras (for free), just pm me if you need something.

If you need other screw related parts, please be specific as to what you need. A pic of your euro headlight would be nice, front and back side.

Thanks! So far I'm good. To get the lenses off, do I just bend back the clips on top? Do I use gasket sealer on the gaskets when i put them back together? I ordered the gaskets so I'll get to work on them when they arrive.

The 3 clips on the top need to be gently pried on the frame or housing side, not the glass, as the glass can chip easily. The clip are spring tension. The bottom clip just swing or rotate from side to side so you do not have to bend them, but they maybe be rusted which makes it hard to rotate, so just use some penetrating oil if rusty before. No gasket sealer when reinstalled, just good seals.

Carl and Mirv, just to clarify - here's the link to the shop I meant SLS Im- und Export Handelsgesellschaft mbH - Online Shop. They're based in Germany and are better in some aspects than the SLShop, price wise being one of them.

Mirv, I got the bowls resilvered in Germany - 50€ per piece plus shipping, but they worked out great. I know you're not planning to go that far but once you start it's hard to stop, trust me 😂

miko1aj,
Would you take a guess for resilvering the bowls would be around 90-100 US dollars each (delivered to US) ?.

Man, you guys are going to have me spend all kinds of money I didn't plan to spend! Right now, I'm only planning to polish them. That may change once I get them apart.

As @CousinMB wrote, the coating is very fragile Mirv - the best you can do is get some window cleaner and refresh them, otherwise they need to be resilvered.

I believe there is a company in San Diego who uses the same silver vapor process Mercedes used, but they are $$ (google or ads on classic collector .car sites)
Otherwise, some members have done well with nickel plating, which actually is more reflective than chrome.

Beautiful job and great presentation of the process. The big question is ; Did you have the headlight reflectors re-silvered? If so, who did it and what kind of cost? I have some mediocre reflectors and have been unable to find replacements for the vacuum adjustable type. By the way, my vacuum adjusters seem to work fine but the static adjusters don't allow enough vertical adjustment up. Any ideas?

I took the lenses off today. Someone already tried to clean one of the reflectors and it's full of scratches. Both of them have rust as well. And one of the lenses is chipped where a clip attaches. There are plenty of plating shops around here so I'll look into getting them nickel plated and get new lenses. Thanks all for your help!
