This is a simple question but I'm curious as to when to get my Oil Changed. The guys who's serviced the Car at the Dealer says it's basically every 10K when the "A" or "B" Service is due, and he says the car will tell me when it needs an Oil Change, is this true?

Also, if that's not the case, do I have to go to an MB Authorized place to get it done, or could I just go to (for example) Jiffy Lube and put Mobile 1 in there. The Car has 150K Miles on it too.

Thanks.

Hi mate, these cars use an inteligent servicing system, the length between services is calculated using all sorts of inputs, oil quality, cold starts, abuse car gets, miles (obviously) and some other stuff. The system is called ASSYST I think. To find how many miles you have left.....go to the dash menu with your odometer on it, then press up or down button on steering wheel to get miles remaining it will also say what service is due. My car needs servicing about every 14,000 miles. I actually added a litre of oil the other week and the sevice jumped back about 1500 miles further away, good or what.

Wow, that's awesome. Thanks buddy. So if it needs an Oil Change, it'll come right up on that Screen or do you have to search for it? I gotta check and see when mine's due!

Yes, if its due it will bore you about it when you turn the key on, but you have to search if you are just intrested when its coming round. If you service it yourself, you will also be pleased to hear that if you hold down the "R" button on the cluster the "service now" message will be reset.

Please don't take your car to Jiffy Lube.
+1

I wouldn't touch a Jiffy Lube with a ten foot pole. Changing the oil is easy if you have the tools for it and a garage.

Yeah that's what I needed to know, if I should trust Jiffy Lube with the Car. Thing is I'm not inclined to do it myself, so any good recommendations on where to take it? Should I just go to my Benz Mech?

10,000 miles? Wow! When I first started driving we needed to change the oil every 3000 miles - viscosity would break down. Back in the day if you kept a car beyond 50,000 miles that was REALLY old. All kidding aside, the oil is the life blood of the engine and when it comes to that I don't skimp. Even though we use synthetic oil which doesn't break down as easily as the days of old I usually change the oil every 5000 miles and check for excessive dirt etc. I just bought the S430 4matic about 3 weeks ago and with the first oil change I'm going to do an oil analysis -check for particles, coolant contamination.... I did this on a boat I was about to buy and found a host of problems - I walked away.

10k or a year, whichever comes first. If you do a lot of stop/go or city driving, I would consider doing it more often. Do not use Jiffy Lube or Mobil 1; go to a dealer or a mechanic with some MB experience and make sure they use the correct filter and MB-specced oil (not all synthetics are OK)

If not Mobil1 then what are most of you using ?

Lucas oil makes a good synthetic oil.

What is in your oil pan ?

Guys:

I change the oil in my lawn mower more often than that, think about it. You would drive a 50 + 000$ car 10 or 15000 miles before changing the oil!!! Jiffy lube recomends every 3K, they are selling OIL. Benz must be selling after warrenty service at 15000. These cars will take a lot of abuse, then go out of warrenty and then hold tight to your wallet If you did not treat them good.

Good luck with your 15000 mile oil changes,

Ron

Sorry but that doesn't seem to be the best advice toward these motors.

LMAO! Jiffy Lube recommends 3k mile oil changes because they make their living on CHANGING OIL. The earlier they can convince you to change your oil, the more money they make. Simple as that.

fwiw, the oil on my lawn tractor has never been changed since we bought in 2004 and I know it's abused much, much more than any of our cars.

Your lawn mower has an odometer? Does it have FSS as well?

synthetic oil is designed to last at least 15k miles, and engine is just an engine MB or FORD will treat the oil the same, no need to change it more frequintly than 10K unless FSS says so, but 2 or 3K wont make a difference.

Yes I put the Mobil 1 synthetic form Costco not even sure what the numbers are, I live in the warm climate so it does not matter.
