Not sure about your definition but your W126 ABS brakes are "computerized", would you call the car computerized then?

From what I remember W123 diesels had computerized Cruise Control and tachometer.
Those things have records for failing.
Sure the hydraulic oil pressure gauge on them was lot of fan. Especially when somebody forgot to reconnect the oil line behind the cluster.

The under the hood crazy stuff began about 1996 for the W140 and only got worse until 2003. The reliabilty is much better today, and not as many failures. The W140's were notorious for electrical gremlins the most expensive being the climate control, the A/C evaporator and finally the wiring harness failure. The S 500 also had a harmonic balancer recall. If you want one be sure to check these items among others!

There have been microprocessors in Mercedes cars from way back in the late 60's and early 70's when Robert Bosch was developing the Jetronic for the S-Class M110.

Bosch also started development of CanBus back in 1983

No microprocessors in there, all analog, with a few IC's.

There is an irony here because I am a computer guy (database administrator for a multinational corporation to be specific) but I don't like computerized cars (we replace servers that are over 5 years old as junk, I hate to consider a 5 year old car as junk)
