Anyone have experience with decreased offset wheels on heavy Unimogs?
Specifically the stock steel wheels were 161mm, weighed 116lb without beadlocks. The 395s are about 220lb.
I obtained a set of Hutchinson MRAP wheels which are perfectly balanced unlike the steel wheels, 84 lb +~15-20 lb for beadlock. But they are only 90mm: 2.8” further out. Steering is perfect. CTIS works.
I am wondering about effect on hub output shaft bearings. Please note that the U500 (which I have) allows use of 495/70R24 XM47 (260 lb) with DW16Lx24 wheel (steel, got to be at least 130 lb). Which has 110mm offset when sourced from MB. So I am only 20mm over that.
But, load onto the axle is unchanged. With max load rear axle weight is 8000kg; close to GAWR of 9000.
Anyone have experience with this? 25000 miles with this configuration so far. I do carry complete portal parts.
