Wheel bearing comes loose

Hello,

I have noticed that just on one wheel the bearing sometimes comes loose quite fast, I have to tighten the bearing like every week, others wheels is perfect no loose at all. Why like that?

You've got 4 wheels.
Pick one.

Could be the bearing carrier itself?

Any symptoms or unusual noise?

Bearings do not come loose by themselves. I suspect it is the wrong bearing as evidenced by the non factory grease.

Do NOT drive the car until this issue is investigated and fixed.

OR you could wait until you see one of your wheels going faster than you are and see what happens.

Remove both sides and compare bearing numbers, order new incase offending one is incorrect?

When you say "comes loose" do you mean the U-shaped nut has moved - or are you saying it has not, yet there is play in the bearing that wasn't there when you last tightened it?

What is your procedure for tightening the bearing? (do you use a gauge to measure pre-load?)

Appears the flat washer between the bearing and the retaining nut is missing...or am I missing something. As said before compare with the other side.

Hard to see.
OP has way too much grease packed over, like a mud pie.
I guess grease works well as a barrier for coming loose issues.

As i see it , the retainer clamp is doing nothing ...is it even locked up tight ? no retainer clamp in the parts drawing above.On newer models may be Mercedes W124 went over to securing nuts .

This is more like it looks to me like 9g is missing ..

there is a retaining nut, just ye, its all greased up. And what comes loose is the U shape nut. I will compare with others wheels.

Replacement with a new hub assembly is the only solution.

Then if it is the locking yoke part number 9D and 9I will need replacing .,Try that first then if its still going loose do as sbaerts above post advised you to do .

I can't find OEM part numbers for 9d and 9i, where could I find them?

Yes I have 9g there, just hard to see in original photo.

Just for clarification, are you saying the whole hub needs to be replaced? Is there any reason why new bearings and races can't be installed in the old hub?
