Hi all,
I've a 94 E320 with 140k miles, and she's been acting up lately. Here's how it all started. I had the head gasket replaced 6 weeks ago. Soon afterwards, the car would rattle and shake whenever it was low on gas, but would drive fine after filling up the tank (or after hard revving).
But for the past four weeks, the car has been rattling no matter how much gas I put. But this stops on the highway while driving at moderate speed (60 - 80 miles), but will resume as soon as I stop. Some times it drives fine all along.
Initially I thought it had to do with the wiring harness, but then I haven't had any problems with the electronics, and the engine light has never come on. I mean, the car is fine except for the rough idling and acceleration.
I'd like to get your opinion before the dealer takes $$$$$$ for a simple problem I could fix myself. Please HELP. Thanks.

Sometimes the car feels like it's stalling, and has poor acceleration. Engine runs rough and sounds like diesel. As I mentioned, sometimes the car drive fine once I pick up speed. No hard starts at all.

Yeah the E320 and E420 a notorious for bad wires in the harness. They litrally crumble in your hands. Absolute pain in th a$$.

aside from the harness, i would rep;lace your plugs and leads, if she is still rough, change distributer cap and rotar arm, if she still runs rough, i would have your injectors checked out.

my car has the same intermittent problem and my merc specialist reckons the injector is the safest bet to start with although can be costly so start with plugs etc. (i would have thought plugs and leads would come with the head gasket service anyway??)

cheers
Ben

To me that sounds like 100 % an engine harness issue, and by now every W124 owner here should just deal with the fact that it has to be replaced. Yesterday I shut my eyes and threw 12 hundered's on the table.
