Well I am now the general manager/owner of a MB repair/sales shop… I am flooded with all these W120's! Every single W210 that drives into my shop has; high miles, broken glowplugs, a/c problems, seat switch problems, CAN issues, sensor nightmares of all kinds, overheating, etc, etc, etc… I used to think the W140's were the "worst" Mercedes to try to keep running, now I truly believe it is the W210. Anybody have any insight into this? Am I just getting bad W210's or are they roaches in general?

Just curious! Hope I didn't offend!

My W140 was the worst car I have ever touched - it is getting very close to 20 years and nothing has even come close.

The high miles on many of the W210's should say something.

pinning a 210 to a 140 is somewhat unfair. W140's were the most expensive mercedes ever built. It cost MB 1 billion to retool their factory just for this car, they intended the 140 to be a competitor to the rolls royce of the time, not lexus, or bmw. The 140 has loads more to go wrong compared to a 210. Thankfully my 210 seems decent, It hasn't been in the shop for almost a year. Although ac problems I can believe.

If I weren't exhausted I'm sure I would've phrased my topic better lol. I didn't mean to truly compare the two. I find it odd how the junker (as in should've been in the junkyard 10 years ago) 140s I get in my shop are more "reliable" than even the nice W210s.

I am glad to hear there are some good 210's out there--it is the last e-class body I really like. I really wouldn't mind snagging one of the 7.3L brabus W210s… :D The next gen were hideous and overtly electrono-fied IMO. :surrender:

I should mention my definition of "high miles" is about 80k miles… Most of them range from 60k miles to 130k miles

I experienced that on several vehicles that 10-12 years mark takes toll on gaskets, seals and some switches as well. Once you fix them, the car is good for another decade.
Funny part we had 12 years old Volvo that was giving me lot of headaches at the time with several leaks. I ordered new Mercedes and after year wait (!) got it, still keeping Volvo for school runs, or going to the city with bad parking lots.
When our school runs ended after another year, I was only waiting for an excuse to junk the Volvo (it was totaled 3 times by the time). The irritating thing was running perfect for next few years and finally I got tired of its perfection, taking it to junk yard running perfectly at 17 years of age. Got some cash for parting the hood and wheels.

People who took W210 to your shop probably never heard of benzworld, greg..., G-AMG..., loubapach, Matt L..., ohlords..., and many other screennames. Now if you, MB_Fahrer, had used any tip herein to fix w210, I think benzworld deserves a share of your profit.

Whoops, I forgot about greg..., G-AMG..., loubapach, Matt L..., ohlords..., and many other screennames, they should get a share of your paycheck if any of their tips herein had been used to fix w210 in your shop.

Have a look in the stickys for the common problem areas. My guess is you'll see all of them in due time. These are not bad cars but they certainly have their share of issues.

i think average mileage for w210 section members is over 150k miles. a couple days ago someone was disappointed his transmission was giving problems at 280k miles.

Well, let's see. There were lots more 210s sold than 140s.

They have a fresher look and they are very affordable.

The 140's bad reputation is pretty well known, so people avoid them.

Lots of people defer pricier maintenance and/or sell the car rather than maintain it when presented with a large bill.

All of that means a lot of income potential for the entrepreneur. But if you don't want the business, lots of others are happy to take it. ;)

obviously you only see cars when they are broken or in need of work. No one brings a car to the mechanic just to say hellow. BYT 80K is not high miles for a car that is 10 years old.

For a guy that's in the Middle of Nowhere, it's obvious why he's getting so much business. His 20' neon sign says "We Fix All Mercedes W210s-Whether They Need It Or Not - Free Courtesy W140s - Our Repairs Never Take Less Than 30 Days - All Major Bank Cards Accepted AWA Sub-Prime Mortgages" All he's missing are the day old donuts; correction he's got those too.

W210 it's far more good-looking than old W123-124. and it keeps a lot of old good materials, strength (except perch).

It's by far a very goof construction, which a clever guy can find a bargain as used.

The driving sense is lovely.

the problems for me are funny really, as long as we aren't "disabled" people.

Geez, MB Fahrer, for a guy who doesn't own a Mercedes, you sure like to trash them. If you have owned one, you ought to list it instead of your RENNtech "give away".

He's like a doctor that complains about all the sick people coming to see him. Ugh.

Cheers -- Greg

Today and this week, if I were MB Farher, I'd be busy going through all the receipts at the shop to see which W210s and any other MBs were fixed with tips/knowledge gained from benzworld. I'd try to be a fair, honest, reasonable general manager/owner of a MB repair/sales shop with great ethics and integrity, I'd put aside 10% profit, write a check payable to benzworld.org, send it in. And if I've risen to general manager/owner of a MB repair/sales shop with tips/knowledge gotten from benzworld, I'd put a big banner at my shop in my office
"Thanks to benzworld, you made my shop."
