Right now I've got 18x10" wheels on my 99 ML430. Despite having Pirelli "snow rated" tires, 10" wide wheels just sucked this last winter in the snow. I'm moving to Connecticut in a few months, and I know winter is far away, but my tires are getting worn down a little and one has already been patched. I'm also looking to go back to 17" wheels for a larger sidewall and a smoother/quieter ride for the drive up there.

I think the factory wheels were 17x8.5 for the ML430. About all I can find for sale is ML320/350 wheels in the range of 7" to 8" wide. I think 17x7 is maybe too narrow, but would 17x8 be OK for a ML430?

Also, I checked tirerack.com and they only offer one set of 17" wheels for my car: Sport Edition F10.
It says that they only weigh 19.5 pounds. I think the OEM wheels are somewhere around 40lbs each. Is it safe to use such lightweight wheels on an SUV? :dunno:

well....i know load rating is very very important.
And these say that they are made in china
China makes a lot of great products - but i frankly wouldn't put them on my ML yet....

regarding wheel width, i'd go with 17x8.5

I bought a set of Special Edition 2005 wheels from my dealer - he sold them to me super cheap because the original owner upgraded to 18" AMG wheels.

I also see that they're available on ebay.

Wow, 18x10, that's sweet. Any pics of the rear end of that baby???? Anyway, you want 17x8.5. MJ50 above is trying to get rid of his 17x8.5. 17x8 is narrow and you'll not like it, coming from 17x10. You could also try the AMG 18x9. Not a bad choice and that should fit the 430. You could also go to Potomac Auto. They have a set of W164 18x??? that'll fit the W163. I know it's not 18x10.

FedEx sells boxes that fit. Uhaul may as well. You can always scrounge around wheel shops for boxes too.
