I have been really giving some thought about selling the car soon. I just put the new engine in in and am working out a few other bugs with various leaks and such.

Its a 1986 560SEL Carat Cullinan model modified by Duchatelet. 148K on the body, 110K on the engine with new chain, rails, tensioner, waterpump and other stuff I've done that I cant remember at the moment, I'll post everything I've done to it soon.

It's only been titled by the original owner and was a european delivery.

Does anyone here have any interest or suggestions as to what to do?

I had no idea that was your car
I've read the posts from a while back on another forum which documented your discovery of it

Amazing

Gotta love that front end!!!. That is one nice car. Wish I had the bucks, I'd buy it and drive it only on the Diesel Drives in Nor Cal and So Cal. What a ride! Trade ya a nice common(except for the import/export to Spain from California by the PO) 380SE. LOL! Someone on this forum needs to buy that car. Maybe not for a DD, but a grand touring car for sure!

Well someone on here should get it so I can keep track of it years down the road and say "yep, that used to be mine" ;)

If you had the leather redone in a more 'timeless' pattern and replaced that 'classic 80's' TV monitor on the dash with an LCD, then it would look so much better. The interior as is, just screams 1980's to me. Otherwise it looks like a nice car. If you are selling, then just sell it as is.

Yeah, I agree, I would never that car from the way it is. Not even the head lights that is a really sweet car, just the way it is. Ho wmuch are you lookng to get for the beast? And is it still an american 560 engine in it?

To me, the original 80's look would precisely be the point.
Different strokes....

Hef why on earth would you get rid of that car--put it in storage and wait until you have to swap out the 560 for an electric conversion 30 years from now when the battery technology can catch up with the weight of that vehicle!

but if you have to let it go name a good price on it once the bugs are worked out--don't sell it to anyone except a collector/enthusiest, not a reseller!

yeah really. right now if someone offers the right amount I may let it go. I'm currently chasing leaks: a/c, oil, transmission and power steering. Nothing is getting changed to "update" it, that would take away what the car is. and yes I'm keeping the BOOMERANG tv antenna on the trunklid ;) plus after the wiring nightmare i went though to get the tv to work, you bet its staying in there. havent figured out why the VCR doesnt work yet though.

after spending every night for the last two weeks at the shop working on it getting the engine in and running, and still have it leak after all the preventative stuff I did while it was out sorta has put me off and I've been taking a break from it for awhile.

It's a US model 560, so yeah a US spec engine went back in it, built around the same time as the original engine. (new engine #000972)

Some parts of the interior is a bit rough, personally I think all the wood needs to be refinished as its all 3 different shades of brown. The dye on the steering wheel needs to be redone. The seats are actualy pretty good shape, as is the suede on the dash and leather headliner (!).

I havent taken it out on the road yet, not untill the leaks are taken care of anyways.

I do think this would have been a better candidate for jono to play with then me, I just dont have the time or expertise to quickly get though its issues.

I love that interior. And honestly I think it was well ahead of it's time, maybe looks '80's but is definitely NOT out of style. I don't care for the seats, but didn't Maserati use that same style/design in the late '90's, more than ten years later? And the door panels especially look way ahead of their time. Don't replace a thing!
