Should be receiving my new Escort 9500ix today and am looking for something better than the suction cups. Blendmount offers a nice looking mount that attaches around the rear view mirror, except it won't work for Merceds Benz or Bimmers...What are you guys running with?

Also, any tips on your hardwire install will be greatly appreciated. The dangling cord just doesn't cut it on such a beautiful interior.....

I have an 04 CLK 320 Cabrio
Thank you very much.......

I have an Escort 9500i and an 8500 X50 before that. I originally used the included windshield mount, but then switch when they cam out with their single-cup mount. But it's crap - after several months in the sun, the suction cup deteriorates and rips where the mechanical tensioner connects. I ended up using a single cup mount that came with an old Sirius radio kit. I had to modify it slightly, but this one has been great for several years. I place the detector on the glass, centers, right below the mirror. I use the Escort direct wire SmartCord. I have it ties into the cigarette lighter in the center console, and the mute button placed there next to the shifter. I just "trapped" the wire between the center console's wood panel and padded side and it fits quite well. I ran the wire under the dash and up through e A-pillar to the headliner to the mirror. It's all very clean.

I use the Escort Solo s2 cordless with a visor clip. A quick search tells me "S3" is the new model. In my case, the two AA batteries last a surprisingly long time and of course, there are no annoying cords.

The supplied suction cups did suck, but not in the right way, so I bought the official Escort visor clip. Given the cost of the detector, they should supply this, but it's only about $11.

Thanks Rodney, no doubt your install looks real clean. The detector arrived last night and after reading the manual I'm quite impressed. You'd think that Escort would have cut costs with the storage case in favor of a better mount!

I bought Escort's direct wire also, but without the SmartCord switch. How did you connect the power into the lighter?

Visor clip to the headliner, so you can still use the visor, and then hard wire to the overhead light console... still used an inline fuse and poked around with a voltage meter. Clean and easy

I just used "vampire taps" into the lighter's wiring harness. I didn't realize they even sold a hardwire without the inline "mute" switch. I like that so I don't have to reach up to the detector and find the mute button.

I've been really happy with my Escorts, but they have an odd "bug". Sometimes, but not always, when I honk the horn, the laser detector goes off. It's really odd, because it did this in my BMW, the C240 and now the CLK. I figure it must be some sort of "harmonic" thing. It did it on my 8500 X50, too. In fact, the reason I upgraded to the 9500i was because my 8500 started giving me problems - some error code on startup. I figured the laser-by-horn was some sort of symptom of that. Anyhow, I sent the 8500 back for repair (cost me $60?), but after a day without it, I was going crazy so I bought the 9500i, figuring I'd put the 8500 in the wife's car. Anyhow, the 9500i did the same thing with the horn, and so did the 8500 when it came back from Escort. My wife ended up hating having a detector (said it was "distracting"). Now the kid wants on in her C240, so I think I'm going to get a hardwired in the CLK and pass the 9500i to her.
