The BAS/ESP and ETS lights came on today.
What does this mean?
(besides an expensive trip to dealer #2 an hour away)

Sounds like a brake switch problem. See http://www.benzworld.org/forums/forums/thread-view.asp?tid=1166641&posts=14&hl=brake+switch for an easy DIY. [;)]

Like Azin said, it's most likely a brake sensor switch. It doesn't render your

systems nonfunctional - on an empty road, smash haer, real hard on the brakes and you'll notice that both BAS and ABS will come on as advertised.

Now, Wolfgang hinted in <a href="http://www.benzworld.org/forums/forums/thread-view.asp?tid=1206361&mid=1456618&fid=29#M1456618">this thread</a> where I was bitching about my problems that these Bosch electronic systems are due for a recall - thank goodness.

Sorry Adam, I just realized that you replied to that thread. What a truck!!! My SOS thing is still unresolved and I haven't even bothered yet to tell them about the BAS/ABS/ETS/etc/etc/etc issues yet.

I had the same problem on my ML 01' 320. The dealer replaced the brake switch while still under warranty. It's an easy DYI job. The part as I understand is under $20.00
