Hi,

You could compare the EPA numbers for the two vehicles as an indicator (same or different), BUT, in 2008, EPA changed the way mileage is reported in a manner than decreases the newer car mileage by a couple of mpg. You can see this if you go to dealer sites and compare the mileage of a 2007 and a 2009 E350, the mileage is different but the cars are the same in every mileage-related way.

Check fuelly.com - it lists real world mileage for many makes and models. Should give you a pretty good idea of what kind of results you can expect.

I find EPA numbers are actually pretty accurate for real world driving. Fuelly.com (which I also take part in) is a bit skewed in my opinion as people who participate in it are more likely to drive more geared toward getting the best MPGs they can ie. driving slower, being really mindful of their driving habits.

I just did a long trip from NYC to South Carolina. Averaged 28 mpg. Amazing for 402hp V8

That's about the same as I get with a 2010 E350 4 Matic on the highway, 100 miles plus distance. IN the city I could be at 10-11 on the low side. Bet is probably 28 mpg on a long trip.

Is your only consideration in a new car the miles per gallon? Mercedes isn't necessarily the first choice I'd look at if you are concerned about fuel economy. You should look at the new Toyota Prius or other hybrids for fuel economy.

Folks buying and driving Mercedes are generally concerned with safety, comfort and longevity of the vehicle.
