I'm in total agreement with doing some preventative work to my 500 (Peral) so I was pricing having the rear subframe mounts replaced and rear wheel bearings. I was quoted $1100.00 for one side, to do the bearing(s) am I missing something? Is there some sort of super special procedure to replace the wheel bearing?

I was gonna go a shop that does suspension, Only and have it done, Now I'm questioning the decision. Will someone help me here, please?

Did my motor mounts this morning. No real symptoms, other than age, but they were totally collapsed and leaked when i took them out. With a lift i was able to do them nearly all from underneath. I left the engine block arm alone and muscled both in and out, while lifting and supporting the engine with a screw jack and wood under the oil pan. I did the trans mount last week as well as the steering damper

The glove box release button light was flickering, so I took it out as well as the center dash cubby, unplugged it and plugged it back in, and the flicker seems to be gone. Also, the center dash cubby was previously getting caught or hung up on the dash and needed help to open, now it opens perfectly.

I took her out for some exercise...a few miles up and down the interstate.

I don't think I put 1000 miles on that car since last February mainly because she's my "special event" toy and we just didn't do any in 2020.

Removed, cleaned and oiled a noisy blower motor with gear oil- Seems to have helped quiet it down but we will see for how long. I think this would be good preventative maintenance if your bearing is still good when you change the cabin filter, even without removing the motor. Also cleared a plugged rubber drain on the plastic cowl piece above the cabin air filter. I noticed that the Corteco made in germany air filter is stamped such that the airflow direction is wrong (see picture). Their recirculation filter was also half as thick as the OEM one I pulled out.

Fixed a collapsed rear headrest switch mount in the shifter surround console with epoxy. The aft edge of this wooden console piece doesn't seem to lie flush with the center console; it has no tab or mechanism to hold it down in back, so it stands up slightly.

Fixed and cleaned leaking rear "luminous band" with dirt and mold inside: Removed, carefully detached the foam gasket, drilled drain holes at each end from the side/back, irrigated inside in the sink with water/cleaner/dish soap via the reverse lamp opening, and waited ages for the water inside to evaporate away.

Now the only issues I have with the car are:
-Flickering glove box release button lights, and a couple instrument cluster lights that "fix" when you pound the dash above them. I already tried removing and reconnecting the connector, but the problem came back.
-Front driver's side turn signal housing condensation. Pending re-seal as I don't want to spend $100 on an ill-fitting aftermarket part.
-Cracked headlight lenses - NLA; I think removal and clear epoxy or a windshield repair kit from the inside is the way to go.
-SRS light stays on for 2 minutes - pending a trip to the dealership to reset with SDS
-Volume knob on original radio is broken - pending shipping out to the guys in NJ who can rebuild

Today I replaced both my mirrors and made a great new friend. Ordered replacement left glass from eBay, and opted to pick up rather than shipping, as the seller was SoCal based in OC. After chatting today on the phone, seller offered to install the glass, which I obliged. As he took the glass off, we both noticed the disintegrating wiring and gasket--he pulled out a later OEM replacement with non-eco wiring and a new gasket. Didn't even think about the right (the motor which had started smoking the day prior). He then pulled out the right side mirror, same story, OEM replacement glass and assembly, with fixed gasket. He refunded me the glass only, discounted me 10% on both the mirrors, and installed both in about 20 mins at no charge.

Saved me hours AND hundreds...

He also rebuilds door pumps--will probably be seeing him soon.

Love making Benz friends!
Would he do a 1992 Soft CLose assist pump???? Mine keeps cutting out....also has one hose nipple broken off...

welll...every week I work on something....as an old car...I fix one and fail other two things...but is entertaining and challenging for me in my country to find spares ($$$) and learn how to DYS. last week change the driver's window regulator, replace some fuses, replace all fuel pump seals, continue with the coolant leak search, and lot more issues.....today I have NO front lights and find that probably is because the lights switch is broke inside....will get a new one for about 90U$. thanks for sharing your experiences and pictures, they are visual help!!

Fixed my early model key fob by resoldering the negative and positive terminals on the key after opening it up. Tried a new blower motor by Neissen but am returning it because it vibrates after 60% power. Conditioned the leather. Detailed the engine a bit.

Update: 9/26 - Clay barred, cut and polished the hood, ceramic/wax hybrid while I wait for cquarts true ceramic coating. Looks amazing.

Had an E55 muffler put in place of a generic one that was replaced sometime before my ownership.

Fitment is great, not entirely happy with the work from the shop, as i think it can me moved closer to the bumper for a better look, just didnt have time to go back after really looking at it. No change in sound, nor was i looking for any... just aestethics.

Looks good from here! May I ask what make and model of car lift you use there, and do you like it?
