Is this some sort of coax?

There seem to be a regular stranded wire (green in pic) then a sheathing (al/tin) over its insulation and the second stranded wire wrapped around the first covered by black insulation.

There are 5 of these in the engine harness.
1 to the air temp sensor on air crossover pipe
1 to plug on top timing cover
1 to a plug in the battery area
2 to a 4-pin connector near the throttle actuator.

Some sort of coax? anyone know what you call this type... I don't know if I could use two regular wires w/o any adverse consequences. After all Mercedes won't use this wire for the heck of it.

Thanks for the help from anyone who can.

It looks like coax, but its just regular screened cable, you need to measure the size of the inner conductor, it is probably stranded and not a solid like coax center wire

Thanks.

My guess is these reduce electro magnetic interferences and such compared to 2 separate wires.
