Just the other day, I checked my tire pressure on my brand new Michelin Pilot MVX4's. Maximum pressure for these tires is 51lbs. but Benz recommends something like 28 front, 33 rear for my 300E, I think. The tires were set by the dealer at 44PSI front, 46PSI rear. Is this ok for the car? What tire pressure to you set your tires to?

If you read carefully no load is 27 psi all around with load 28 front and 33 back. I put mine at 28 all around.

33 PSI front 35 PSI rear (for improved handling and fuel economy).

I always go a few pounds less than what the tire recommends. If you're only using 28 psi on a 51 psi tire, I would think you would prematurely wear the edges of your tire. Not to mention decreasing your handling...

Max operating pressure for that tire is 51!? Surprising. Are you sure that you're not reading the "do not exceed" pressure on the sidewall? That tells a tech the max pressure he can use to seat the tire bead on the wheel. Passenger car tires are typically 35 psi max when cold and that's what I set all 4 of mine at. The mfgr usually recommends lower pressures to improve ride quality and reduce noise. I'd rather have lower rolling resistance and better tread wear.

tires wear quicker at higher inflation pressures.

use whatever pressure feels best for you, but dont exceed the max as stated on the tire sidewall. most are 35, if not 44. some are more.

i do 38f 38r for fuel economy. rotate and balance every three months. filled with nitrogen. they do ride harder than when i had factory spec air pressure (29f 32r?) and i feel more bumps and potholes. factory was like riding, erm gliding,, on a magic carpet.
