Hi.. i have oi consumption... 1qt per 700 miles using Mobil1 0w-40.. Mobil 1 worst in my car... Pennzoil 5w40 had less consumption..
Currently switched to liqui moly leichtlauf 5w40
last summer changed Throttle body seal ring.. did all the valve covers and RTV too.. all the breather hoses also...

I just wanna hear what is your consumption? And what kind of oil you are running?

Both these M112s are new to me and I have no documented history. Both run Mobil1 0W-40 since I got them. Both consume about a quart in 3,000 miles. Neither leaves a puddle but the sedan (110K miles) is wet around the front crank seal and the wagon (175K miles) valve covers need attention.

I have now had my model year 2000 E430 for about two or three months. I have put 3400 miles on it. I am pleasantly surprised when the oil consumption is negligible. I use Mercedes brand 5W 40 which they told me was mobile one. Prior to that it got mobile 10W 40 most of it’s life.

I have had my car since September 2016. I started off using Mobil 1 0w-40 but I switched to Castrol Edge 0w-40. When I do oil changes on my car I like to fill it up to 3/4 of the way on the dipstick. I check my oil once a week and I do not see any huge change in the level until it's time for the next oil change (between 6,000-7,000 miles). At that point usually the level will drop to 1/2 on the dipstick. And I attribute that to my rear main seal leaking slightly (no drops of oil on the ground though). I do not add any oil between oil changes.

I've had my E430 for almost ten years and 110K miles and change the oil per the FSS, ~10K miles and never have to add oil between changes. Don't even bother to check the dipstick anymore... Get it changed at the dealer so don't know what brand of oil they use but I assume it's Mobil 1 0w-40 or equivalent.

The amazing thing with this M119/M112 - and its predecessor the M119 - is the treatment they use on the cylinders - Nikasil - making that aluminum cylinder diamond hard. They must have also improved the material in the valve seals - they used to really wear at 100K miles or so.

I've owned my 2002 E320 4matic wagon for 12 years but only recently started monitoring oil consumption monthly. Averaging my two data points shows the oil drops one tick on the dipstick every 720 miles.

How many quarts of oil correspond to each tick mark on the dipstick? I guess I could figure this out by adding some and seeing how the dipstick level changes. But I never add oil between changes. Also, the size of the oil pan may change at different heights, meaning different quantities correspond to each tick mark.

I sold mine a month ago, but I was using the same Liqui-Moly oil you use and switched to Castrol 0W40 on my last change and used ZERO oil between the 7-8k miles once a year oil changes on mine, weird in a positive way since I had 225000 miles on it.

The 0 stuff my car pisses it out fast from the rear seal like a 3" spot on the ground per 40 miles, and in the summer mine knocks too since it does not get rotten cold here I do not need the -13F rating that the 0 stuff is rated for.

According to the oil manual for my 2002. I can use 20w-40/20w-50 for no less than 22F. I have 15W-50 in mine, and that is rated +5F, and no leaks, and no knocks in the summer.

I'm using mobile one

I'm at 209,000 miles

2002 wagon with about 205000 miles uses no oil between 10000 mile changes. I’ve had it since about 45000 miles.
2002 sedan with about 170000 miles uses 1 quart between 10000 mile changes. I’ve had it since about 60000 miles.

Both are M112 and I use Mobil1 0W40.

I am a second owner of the car... bought last summer...
By the way when I first change the oil I pull out the filter and it's was regular paper filter ...( not a fleece filter...
I changed oil last week .. I vent from to 0w40 to 5w40 let see what happens...
Maybe next time I wanna try Red line oil 10w40
And I changed plugs last summer too ... but I didn't see anything bad.... I Still have old plugs in my garage .. maybe some day o will check them... Thanks for advice guys..

I forgot to mention that i have leaking rear main seal.. between engine and transmission .. its kind of seeping .. i can have like 2 drops of oil per night...

Here is pic of my valve train.. it was last summer when I was replacing the valve covers...
You can see some oil contamination around bolts... and it's signs of neglected service from previous owner...
Also valve covers looks nasty...

SL 55 Consumption

Just changed oil @ 8K miles (yeah I know , my bad) drained out 5 quarts of 20 -50 Mobile 1 .started with 8 1/2 quarts. So 2285 miles per quart. remarkably little for such a hot rod. That with 138.000 on the clock . Car is relatively easy driven but for a few burst to hear it grumble.

Now tires are what it eats.

Shpingalet, that is excessive (you probably know that from the responses), for any car. I have a MY01 E430 with 230+K, purchased new. I drive it hard and use the FSS for service - zero additional oil between changes. I am concerned about the paper filter you mentioned - something isn't right.

Last time I used engine flush Liquid Moly's Pro Line Engine Flush... hope this helps...
Do you recommend full synthetic such as Red line oil... It won't hurt the seals? Or better in my case stick with semi-synthetic High mileage oil..

Whats a dipstick?

My 04 SL 55 doesn't have one, you have to ask the car if it has enough, If it does it just says "Yes" kinda weird the only way you can find out is to take it out and measure. Why did MB do this?
